Using Google Reader

Want to know how to Poach Chicken in a Drip Coffee Maker, see a John Stewart interview with David Brinkley about Theodore Roosevelt’s conservationism, want to know why “Jessica Biel is currently the web’s most dangerous celeb,” want to read motivational posters of Ernest Hemingway ["Problem Solving: The shortest answer is doing the thing."], or see a a map of Virginia drawn in 1800?

With Google Reader, you can do all of this in 5 minutes, at your desk, by doing nothing more than clicking a button.  Imagine if you had all the time in the world at a library to look through all of the newest magazines to find interesting articles to read.  Just think how long it would take to find just 20 articles.

I have 47 subscriptions to web sites and blogs (fewer than I thought) that constantly bring me some of the most amazing content and ideas.  I feel like I grow every day because of it.  Better yet, I find great ideas I’d like to share with other teachers.  For example, today, I saw a story about a student interview Barack Obama, so I shared it in my Google Reader hoping some of the middle school teachers I work with will see it and show it to their students on the first day of school.

I hope teachers will encourage each other to use Google Reader, follow me, follow each other, and learn.
